Natural preservatives: A whole world in natural cosmetics

The importance of natural preservatives in natural cosmetics
Day after day and without thinking about natural preservatives, we use cosmetic products in our hygiene, beauty and personal care routine. The current average from the time we get up to bed is in 12 cosmetics in the United States. Isn't it amazing? That if shampoos, that if toothpaste, creams, makeup ... it all adds up. Maybe some of you think "well, it's not so much" but what if we tell you that the sum of ingredients rises to 7,000? Things change. And not only that, but many of them are toxic and pose a danger to our health. Every day we use these products layer after layer. And we are intoxicating our skin little by little.
Due to numerous studies done by important sectors such as the WHO or the FDA, companies have now begun to vary their formulations. Some ingredients have even been classified as dangerous and have banned their use. These facts show that, as a company, it is always important to go further and use ingredients that really bring a benefit to the consumer.
Ami Iyök bets on natural ingredients and preservatives
Because of this concern, Ami Iyök has always opted for committed ingredients at all levels. This end has been achieved thanks to the growing concern for the natural and the ecological. Its increase during the last years seems that it will stop being a trend to become a reality. More and more people opt for a natural cosmetic that is characterized by not containing:
- No petroleum products
- Emollients, oils or synthetic fats are not included.
- They do not have silicones
- Free of dyes and synthetic perfumes.
- Contain only explicitly authorized preservatives
- All manufacturing processes are environmentally friendly
- Not tested on animals.
Cosmetics certified as natural or organic is the only one that can guarantee compliance with all requirements in an integral way. Thanks to the increasingly demanding consumers with the manufacture of products, this type of respectful cosmetics has been able to make a place in the market.
NATURAL PRESERVATIVES
First of all, it is necessary to understand the complexity of using quality raw material. And for this, we must talk about the natural preservatives allowed in natural cosmetics. In general, the preservatives authorized by the certifiers most commonly are:
- Benzoic acid and its salts (e.g. Sodium Benzoate)
- Sorbic acid and its salts (e.g. Potassium Sorbate)
- Salicylic acid and its salts (e.g. Calcium Salicylate)
- Alcohol bencílico (benzyl alcohol)
All of them are indispensable synthetic ingredients and are part of the 5% of synthetic substances allowed in natural and organic cosmetics. It is also possible to constitute a system of more natural alternative preservatives. Including essential oils or extracts with antimicrobial properties complemented with packaging that protects and hinders contamination is very effective. It is essential that the product is effectively preserved. Preventing contamination by bacteria and fungi is of great importance as they can change the properties and texture of cosmetics.
PRESERVATIVES NOT ALLOWED IN NATURAL COSMETICS
To give you a general idea, there are six types of preservatives that are used in conventional cosmetics and that are totally banned for natural cosmetics. Its use is suspicious for health and, therefore, natural cosmetics try to avoid it.
