We keep hearing that to take care of ourselves both inside and outside we have to consume and apply products rich in antioxidants. But? What is really an antioxidant and how does it work in our body?
An antioxidant is a molecule that, found in our body, can slow or prevent the oxidation of other molecules. Cell oxidation is responsible for skin aging, produced by known free radicals.
Free radicals are any molecule or atom of the organism that contains at least one missing electron, meaning that it goes in search of an electron to achieve its chemical stability. So, they create chain reactions with the molecules around them, capturing their electrons and destroying our cells.
The role of antioxidants is to avoid these reactions, binding with free radicals and oxidizing themselves, so that the surrounding cells do not rust.
Free radicals are produced by pollution, tobacco, sun exposure, stress, high fat diets, sedentary lifestyle.
Bear in mind that not all free radicals are bad: our bodies produce them constantly in moderate amounts to fight bacteria and viruses. The organism keeps them under control. This is the difference: the free radicals produced by our organism with a specific objective can be easily neutralized by itself.
Oxidation of cells can damage DNA, proteins and lipids vital components of health. Aging is an accumulation of all these damaged molecules and the progressive wear and tear of the repair and degradation mechanisms. At the cutaneous level, it is intimately linked with aging as they steal the missing electron from elastin and collagen tissue cells. The direct consequence is premature aging of the skin, early appearance of wrinkles, a loss of elasticity and dryness. It is also responsible for cellulite.
Therefore, antioxidants detoxify and protect the body because they have the ability to destroy free radicals associated with aging.
To combat the excess of free radicals, it is necessary to increase the intake and contribution of antioxidants by consuming foods rich in vitamins C and E. Beta-carotene and minerals such as selenium, zinc, magnesium and copper are also very useful to neutralize free radicals.
On a topical level, formulations rich in antioxidants, applied consistently, create a good defense to combat premature aging of our skin and our face.
Ami iyök products contain high doses of antioxidants from natural and organic extracts. Among them we highlight Kombunectar TM, main active anti-glicant of Kombunectar, from the Kombucha. Which also contains other oxidants such as Alga Spirulina or Açaí.
In Iyök Balance stands out the olive oil and the Amazonian oil Sancha Inchi present in many other products such as Slow liquid, Utrarich dream, Oasis rich cream, Hibistonic, among others.
We do not forget the oil of Argan, Chia, Sangre de Dragó, Palo santo Buriti oil, and especially the well-known Ubiquinone ( Coenzima Q10) . All of them present in Slow liquid, that’s why it is characterized as a highly effective anti-aging oil.
Hibistonic , the antioxidant ultra-moisturizing facial tonic , contains high doses of antioxidants combined with Hibiscus Hamamelis and Ginkgo Biloba.
You see how easy it is to take care of yourself inside and out to combat free radicals! 🙂
